いわき市湯本町エリアは、常磐炭田の中枢をなした常磐炭鉱があり、様々な炭鉱施設等が集中し、戦後は昭和天皇が東北巡行の際入坑した第六坑など重要な施設がありました。
この企画は、いわきヘリテージツーリズムガイドと共に、炭鉱の話を聞きながら「炭鉱の遺構」、「ほるるの模擬坑道」、「温泉の源泉場所」を巡ります。

Iwaki City Coal and Fossil Museum "Horuru"

The museum exhibits the history of mining in the Joban coalfield, fossils of plesiosaurs and other creatures discovered within the city, and fossil materials from various countries that tell the history of the Earth.

You can descend 600m underground in a shaft elevator and experience what it's like to enter a mine. In the simulated mine tunnel, you can experience the atmosphere of the time when the coal industry was thriving, and learn about the history and workings of coal mining through the progress of mining methods and the behavior of the workers.
