A trip around the birthplace of Joban Coal Mine
Hawaiians' unique heritage tour
The Yumotocho area of Iwaki City is home to the Joban Coal Mine, which was the heart of the Joban coalfield, and is home to a variety of coal mining facilities, including important facilities such as the Sixth Pit, which Emperor Showa entered during his tour of the Tohoku region after the war.
In this project, you will tour the coal mine ruins, Horuru's mock mine tunnel, and the source of the hot springs while listening to stories about the coal mine accompanied by an Iwaki Heritage Tourism guide.

The museum exhibits the history of mining in the Joban coalfield, fossils of plesiosaurs and other creatures discovered within the city, and fossil materials from various countries that tell the history of the Earth.
You can descend 600m underground in a shaft elevator and experience what it's like to enter a mine. In the simulated mine tunnel, you can experience the atmosphere of the time when the coal industry was thriving, and learn about the history and workings of coal mining through the progress of mining methods and the behavior of the workers.
