Hawaiian people convey stories using gestures of the hand. This became so because hula was the alternative medium to words for conveying prayers to the gods and legends to the next generation when written characters did not exist. Under the brilliant sun, the beauty of flowers blooming in Hawaii is conveyed by hula, that is, dancing.

Hula is enjoyed when shared with everyone and so it is our pleasure to have you dance with us. Hukilau song is a dance of hauling a seine. In this, we dance to express our desire for everyone to haul a seine and catch fish.

| This is a Hawaiian myth of the fire goddess, "Pele." In this myth, Pele is a very self-centered goddess who causes a volcano to erupt whenever she feels offended. Hawaiian people still believes in this story of Pele and hula dances in her dedication. Here, we dance an old style of hula based on this story of "Pele." |
